Description

Metal Management, Inc. is one of the largest full-service metal recyclers in the United States and runs some 50 branches in 16 states.

Activities

MTLM deals in ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. MTLM is also a bulk stevedoring company.

Application
The PLM 3530S (35 ton on 30 meter Stevedoring crane) with PLM gantry on its own pontoon works non-stop in the Port of New Ark (New York). Around the clock, this crane unloads/loads various types of scrap metal and bulk goods in and out of ocean-going vessels of up to 80,000 ton (amongst others, salt for the icy New York City roads). The pontoon can also be moved to surrounding ports or can be used for “Mid-stream operations”. This means that the ship is not moored but remains in the middle of the river and the pontoon is towed to the ship instead. The crane then discharges the ship into barges which ferry back and forth between ship and shore.

Delivery
The complete derrick pontoon was delivered as a turnkey project. The pontoon itself was also part of this project and was built in America according to the specifications of PLM Cranes B.V.
